Bird boarding for Newmarket bird owners
Davis Drive takes you west out of Newmarket, past Southlake hospital, to the 400; after more than 30 km south on it and a stretch of the 401 west you are in Mississauga, about 57 minutes without traffic. On a flying day, our house costs you about 14 extra minutes on the way to Pearson.

Bird vets nearest Newmarket
404 Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital is in Newmarket itself, on Harry Walker Parkway about 5 km from the town centre, and runs an avian and exotic department inside its 24/7 emergency service, the only one we found in the Toronto area that publishes one. For routine check-ups, the nearest clinic on our list means a 45 km trip south to The Links Road Animal & Bird Clinic.

Newmarket's Ghost Canal, Now A Heron Highway
Newmarket has a canal that never carried a boat. Work began in 1908 to link the town to Lake Simcoe by the East Holland River, and it was abandoned in 1912 when the river proved too low. Three concrete locks, a swing bridge and a turning basin are still there, and wildlife moved in where the barges never came.
- 20 kmof the Nokiidaa Trail, "walking together", from Aurora to Holland Landing
- 84 haof wetland at Rogers Reservoir, where the old lock sits among herons and coots
- 1969the year a Newmarket resident gave the town's Mabel Davis Conservation Area
So while your own bird is on holiday with us in Mississauga, walk the ghost canal. Its daily photos will find you on the trail.
