Bird Sitting Toronto Faqs

How much does it cost?

The cost will vary depending on the type/size of bird that you have. We charge per bird per day, and you can see full details of our pricing here: https://birdsittingtoronto.ca/pricing/

Do I need to bring my own cage?

It is recommended that you can bring your own cage, so as to provide the best comfort of “home” to your bird while they stay with us. However, if your cage is difficult to transport – we do have some selection of cage rentals that you can choose from.

How does cage rental work?

If you require a cage rental, first you’ll need to choose the cage rental you’d like and also check its availability on your dates with us. Check out https://birdsittingtoronto.ca/cagerentals/  and give Samantha a text to check for its availability during your dates. If it is available, it’ll be added to your quote accordingly.

What does the cage rental include?

The cage rental will include standard perches, food/water bowls as well as some toys. We do recommend that you provide your bird’s favourite toys so that they have it to play with in their temporary home!

What’s the daily routine with taking care of the birds?

Every morning at 7am, the birds will wake up with myself and my husband. We uncover them and do the routine food/water/tray change, and then around 9am we let out the birds together as we see fit. They are out on rotation until 12pm, when they are returned back home to have their lunch and rest up after a morning of activity. Then again, around 2pm – the birds are let out on rotation until 5pm. At this point, the birds naturally feel inclined to return home to “roost” – so once the birds are back in their cages they are having their evening meal and getting ready for the night. By 7pm, all cages are closed, and cages are covered for the birds to have at least 12-14 hours of sleep.

Do you provide fresh fruits & vegetables?

We do provide fresh fruits and vegetables. Some examples include apples, bananas, lettuce, oranges, strawberries, carrots, and many more. However, you are welcome to provide a supply of your bird’s favourite fruits/veg as you please.

Are the birds checked for diseases?

All birds that come to BST are required to show proof that they have seen a vet in the last year. It is imperative for our own flock as well as other clients’ birds that every feathered friend is checked for diseases and will not pass any unwanted illness to any of our flock!

How will I know my pet bird is doing okay? Where can I receive updates on my pet bird?

I pride myself in providing routine, daily updates on all the birds in my care. When you register your bird with us, you will be asked for your preferred method of receiving updates (i.e: Text, WhatsApp, Email, Instagram or Other) and I will provide updates to your preferred method.

Will my bird interact with other birds?

Usually we allow all the birds to interact with one another in a monitored setting. The birds are never unsupervised when they are together. However, you can indicate in your registration whether you prefer having separate times out.

Do I need to bring my own food?

If your bird has a specific diet, I would suggest providing your own food. However, we do have a seed/pellet mix that I can gladly offer to the birds, along with their fruits/vegetables.

How much time out will my bird get?

Depending on whether you’d like your bird to have separate cage time out from the others, as well as how well they get along with the other birds – your bird will see anywhere between 4-8 hours of outside cage time when they are at Bird Sitting Toronto.

Where do the birds stay?

Here at BST, we have a dedicated den/room where we keep all the birds’ cages in. We also have a dedicated table space where we have designed a safe, playground space where the birds can intermingle and play! You can check that out on our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/birdsittingtoronto/

How often do you change the food & water?

Food is changed once a day, water is changed 2-3 times a day (birds decide to dirty their water quite often!)

Do you cover the birds at nighttime?

Yes, by 7pm, all birds’ cages are covered with their night blankets to ensure optimal sleep.

How can I get grooming done on my pet bird?

Grooming for your bird includes beak, nail and wing trimming – and we are happy to provide that service to you! If your bird is already staying with us, feel free to shoot a text and request the service. If you haven’t visited BST before, feel free to give a call/text to arrange a time/date to come in for your grooming appointment.

How often should I trim my bird's nails?

Bird’s nails in general should be trimmed every 6 months.

How often should I trim my bird's beak?

Bird’s beaks should be able to wear and tear naturally, however there are some cases where they don’t. In general, a beak trim can be warranted every other year.

When can I expect to receive an update on my pet bird?

Anytime between 9am-7pm, I am able to provide updates on your bird throughout the day while they are in my care. I work from home full time, so I am with them 24/7. Unless I’m in a meeting for my day-job or at personal events, rest assured you’ll be getting plenty of photos/videos from me through the communication method of your choice!

Where can I leave my testimonial?

If you’d like to leave feedback for my service or just want to share kind words, I’m happy to have both! Please feel free to leave your testimonial via this link here: https://g.page/r/CU675YpRB7phEAo/review
