Boarding By Bird
What each species is actually like to look after, and what it costs a day. Out of the cage between 9am and 7pm — about 4–6 hours a day, depending on how your bird gets on with the others.
Small Birds
$14.75 per bird per day
Budgies$14.75/dayThe second most common bird in our home. Budgies are flock birds, so a single budgie is placed where it can see and hear other small birds.
Lovebirds$14.75/daySmall, fast and much stronger than they look. A bonded pair stays together in one cage; a single, hand-tame lovebird gets more handling.
Parrotlets$14.75/dayThe quietest true parrot we board, and the easiest to underestimate. Kept away from bigger birds, with short, frequent handling.
Linnies$14.75/dayGentle little parakeets that would rather climb than fly. Linnies board with our small birds, away from anything big enough to bully them.
Canaries$14.75/daySingers, not talkers. Canaries love a splash, so the water bowl doubles as a bath, and their time out of the cage is always supervised.
Finches$14.75/dayFinches live in pairs and small groups, so birds that share a cage at home share one here, and they stay on the food you send.
Sparrows$14.75/dayYes, sparrows too. Small, quick and wary of hands, so a sparrow boards with our small birds and its time out of the cage is always supervised.
Medium Birds
$19.75 per bird per day
Conures$19.75/dayThe bird we look after most. A conure's cage sits inside the flock, never off on its own, and most settle within a couple of days.
Cockatiels$19.75/dayThe species most prone to night frights, so cockatiel cages sit away from doorways and the room keeps a low light overnight.
Quakers$19.75/dayRegulars here. A quaker gets safe weaving material and a cage it can't rearrange into an escape, and we clean without reaching past one guarding its door.
Meyer's Parrots$19.75/dayQuieter than a conure, and a cousin of the Senegal. A Meyer's likes a steady day, so we keep to the routine you describe on the registration form.
Starlings$19.75/dayA songbird, not a parrot, and a gifted mimic. Please send its own food from home: our house mix is seeds and pellets.
Large Birds
$24.75 per bird per day
Indian Ringnecks$24.75/dayAthletic, quick to get bored, and escape artists, so a ringneck gets toys it can destroy and every latch is double-checked.
Caiques$24.75/dayBouncy, bold and always busy. How much of its day a caique spends out with the others depends on how it gets on with them.
Senegals$24.75/dayCurious, acrobatic and mellower than most parrots, with a quiet voice. Senegals board with us as large birds.
Pionus$24.75/dayPionus can be sensitive to stress, so time out of the cage on its own, away from the flock, is always an option.
Alexandrine Parakeets$24.75/dayThe big cousin of the ringneck, with a beak to match, so every latch is double-checked.
Lorikeets$24.75/dayNectar eaters. Please send its own lory food from home, as our house mix is seeds and pellets.
Pigeons$24.75/dayCalm, gentle and happiest with room to walk about. We can trim nails, wings or beaks during the stay.
Doves$24.75/dayA happy dove is calm, well fed and has room to stretch its wings. Doves come to us for nail and beak trims too.
Extra Large Birds
$29.75 per bird per day
Congo African Greys$29.75/dayGreys notice everything, so they get a calm, predictable day: the same person doing the same things at the same times.
Timneh African Greys$29.75/dayThe smaller, darker grey with the horn-coloured beak. Like the Congo, a Timneh does best on a calm, predictable day.
Eclectus$29.75/dayThe males are green, the females red and blue. An eclectus boards as one of our extra-large birds.
Cockatoos$29.75/dayBig, affectionate and loud. A cockatoo's cage sits inside the flock, and it boards as an extra-large bird.
Amazons$29.75/dayBold, vocal and full of opinions. Amazons board with us as extra-large birds, at the same rate as African greys.
Macaws$29.75/day*The biggest parrots we look after, so please contact us before you book a macaw's stay.
* Large macaws: please contact us before booking.

In Memory Of Matcha
Why We Take Food Seriously

Matcha, Samantha’s first budgie
“I made the mistake of giving my first budgie, Matcha, a seed only diet for several years which led to her unfortunate premature death by liver disease. Matcha’s passing was the reason why I picked up several books on birds and studied how to provide better care for birds. Matcha is the reason why I try my best to educate others, so they don’t repeat my mistakes.”

Questions we get asked
How much does bird boarding cost in Toronto?
From $14.75 per bird per day for a small bird such as a budgie, $19.75 for a medium bird such as a conure or cockatiel, $24.75 for a large bird and $29.75 for an extra-large bird such as an African grey. Longer stays are discounted automatically, and so are extra birds sharing one cage.
Do you board birds only, or other pets too?
Birds only. Nothing else comes through the door — no dogs, no cats. That is the single biggest difference between us and a general kennel that will accept a bird.
Will I hear from you while I am away?
Every day. You get photos and video of your own bird in the BST Mobile App and by email, so you can see the cage, the food and the bird rather than take our word for it.
How far ahead do I need to book?
Christmas and August fill weeks ahead and are the two windows worth booking early. Most other dates can usually be arranged the same week. A deposit of any amount holds your dates.
Can I bring my own cage?
Yes, as long as one person can lift or carry it — no large rolling flight cages. If you would rather not move a cage we rent them by the day, priced by cage model on the pricing page.
What if my bird needs medication?
We administer it, at $10 a day, and it goes on the daily update so you can see it was given. Fifty-five of the birds we have looked after came to us on medication.
Going away? Tell us the dates.
