Which bird coos instead of squawks, and drinks like it's sipping through a straw? Meet the dove.

There are over three hundred kinds of doves and pigeons. Most pet doves are ringnecks, some of them all white, or little diamond doves.

A ringneck is ten to twelve inches long and can live twelve years or more. Diamond doves are about eight inches, with tiny white spots on their wings.

Doves are calm and gentle. They won't talk like a parrot, and they aren't big chewers. They coo, soft and low.

They eat mostly seeds and grains, and unlike parrots, they swallow seeds whole, shell and all. Pellets, seed and fresh greens keep them healthy.

A common mistake is a tall, narrow parrot cage. Doves don't climb bars, they fly back and forth. So give them a long, wide cage, and a shallow dish to bathe in.

When doves and pigeons stay with us, they're out of the cage between 9 AM and 7 PM, about four to six hours a day, depending on how they get on with the others.

Fresh food every day, fresh water all day, because every bird thinks pellet soup is a delicacy. You get daily photos and videos in the BST Mobile App, and we can trim nails, wings or beaks during the stay.

Grooming during the stay
Ask for a nail, wing or beak trim on the booking form and it is done during the stay, so nobody makes a separate trip.
Watched Around the Clock
Cameras on the birds even when we are not in the room. Temperature and humidity monitored; air HEPA-filtered.
