Which little birds are known for their melodious songs? Meet the finch.

Finches are low maintenance little songbirds, and they live in pairs and small groups.

A finch is one of our small birds. And like canaries, finches often prefer misting to a full bath.

They do well on a diet of quality seed mixes, greens, and the occasional fruit.

Finches that share a cage at home share one here, and they stay on the food you send.

You get daily photo and video updates in the BST Mobile App, so you always know how your finches are doing.

Together, singing, and on their own food. Book a stay at birdsittingtoronto.ca.

Questions About Boarding Finches

Can my finches stay together?

Yes. Finches live in pairs and small groups, so birds that share a cage at home share one here, and they stay on the food you send.

Is my finch out of its cage while it boards?

Out of the cage between 9am and 7pm — about 4–6 hours a day, depending on how your bird gets on with the others.

What does my finch need from a vet before it comes to us?

A recent vet visit with a clean bill of health. We used to require negative polyomavirus and chlamydia tests, but vets have questioned the need for them, so a recent check-up is what we ask for now. If a bird is not domestic, or has been exposed to pathogens or to a high-risk environment, we may still ask for additional testing. We also check every bird over ourselves on arrival. If a bird has not had a recent vet visit we can still board it — we just limit its interaction with the other birds.

How often should my bird's nails be trimmed?

There is no schedule — trim them when they start catching. If your bird's nails snag on fabric or on your hand, or the tips have gone needle-sharp, it is time. Some birds need it every couple of months and some go a year.
